Never got to see me learn to work with stained glass. Never got to see me cut, shape, foil, and solder small pieces of colored glass into two birds that bring a little warmth and light into someone’s home.And then I thought—he didn’t make it home.But my mom is still here.So I go out to my little workshop every day and make these colorful stained-glass bird ornaments.One after another.Not for the money.I do it because my father isn’t here to take care of her to the end.

Before becoming a pair of colorful glass birds, every individual piece of glass is carefully selected and given a purpose.Each section of the birds is traced onto colored glass, scored with a glass cutter, carefully separated, and shaped with a wet glass grinder until the pieces fit together.The edges are then wrapped in copper foil, pressed smooth, and joined with solder to create the detailed lines that define the wings, bodies, and tails.Once the birds are assembled, they are secured to a handcrafted branch-style frame and mounted on a dark oval base.Instead of looking like another factory-made decoration, every ornament carries the character of traditional stained-glass craftsmanship.You may notice slight variations in the glass color, solder lines, texture, and handmade finish.
